Land Acknowledgements

We acknowledge with deep appreciation and humility that this work spans the homelands of over 200 distinct First Nations and 30 Métis charter communities in what is colonially known as the Province of British Columbia.

Our team lives, works, and plays on the pacific west coast within the traditional, ancestral, unceded, and stolen territories of the Kʼómoks (Comox), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱ wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), Hul'qumi'num and SENĆOŦEN-speaking Coast Salish people and the ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ (Tla-o-qui-aht), ʕaaḥuusʔatḥ (Ahousaht), hiškʷiiʔatḥ (Hesquiaht), Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ (Ucluelet), and tukʷaaʔatḥ (Toquaht) First Nations of the nuučaan̓uł (Nuu-chah-nulth) and

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the land and water keepers who have stewarded these territories for Time Immemorial. We recognize the ongoing oppression that persists against Indigenous peoples in British Columbia, particularly the Indigenous-specific racism and colonial violence that is perpetuated in the medical and public health systems that we work within. We further recognize our responsibility and obligation to work towards addressing these harms and advancing Indigenous sovereignty. This includes a commitment to advocate for transformative change at institutional, structural, and system levels, and to uplift Indigenous voices and leadership in public health decision-making arenas.

We also want to gratefully acknowledge the following organizations who shared their expertise and provided local support connecting with youth and providers; a number of whom also facilitated space to host youth expert consultations.
